Trash & Recycling

Where Do I Bring my Trash and Recyclable Items?

Trash and Recycling pick-up is included with ownership/rentals at the Villages of Ocean Edge and is picked up at Chilton Allerton Trash Receptacle Buildings weekly. Please separate recyclable materials from disposable trash and place in the proper bins at the Trash Building.

What Should I Recycle?

All owners are strongly encouraged to utilize recycling bins in your home for you and/or your tenants. Leave a copy of Recycling Guidelines handy in your unit. Did you know that an average of 70% of trash can be recycled? Mixed paper, newspaper, cardboard boxes, bottles, jars, jugs and aluminum cans can all be recycled (see Recycling Guidelines Flyer).

What is NOT Allowed at the Trash Building?

Larger items like TV’s, computers, appliances and furniture, as well as contractor and handyman debris from interior renovations like carpet, drywall and plumbing CANNOT be left at the Trash Buildings. These items must be brought to the Brewster Recycling Center for a small fee with proof of residency (see Trash, Recycling and Hazardous Waste Information).

What About Hazardous Waste Materials?

There are some products and materials that are too toxic to throw in the trash because they are hazardous and harmful to the environment. These items include ALL paint products and thinners, cleaners and chemicals like oven cleaner, drain cleaner and disinfectants. Hazardous materials are collected for free at the Harwich Transfer Station at scheduled times during the year (see Cape Cod Hazardous Waste Flyer).

IMPORTANT: Never clean or dispose of these items in the sink or toilet, it will have a negative impact on our septic system and well water (see Septic Protection Guidelines).

Where Can I Donate Items in Good Condition?

Solid waste is minimized when individual households reduce, reuse and recycle. The Brewster Swap Shop at the Recycling Center was created for the purpose of donating items. Donations can include household items, toys, baby stuff, books, art, linens and other items. All donations must be in clean, working order to be accepted by staff. Visit Brewster Swap Shop for a full list.

A number of Cape Cod Organizations will help residents donate items or find re-usable ones. Certain charities and non-profit groups will pick up items at your home and some donations are tax deductible. Consider donating to or shopping at thrift stores, consignment stores, or some of these organizations: Goodwill, Salvation Army and Habitat Restore.
